Now You've applied to College - what happens next?

Posted by a.smethurst, Nov 25 2007, 10:19 PM in College Applications

unsure.gif

[*]You may get a letter from the College saying they have received your application
[*]After Christmas, you will get a letter inviting you to interview. Make sure you remember to turn up on time! Take your Record of Achievement (Certificates etc)
[*]After your interview you will get another letter (hopefully!) offering you a place at the College provided you get certain grades.
[*]ACCEPT THE OFFER - even if that means accepting offers from more that one college; you will choose which place to take up when you get your results.
[*]You MUST make sure you still work to get the best grades you possibly can; even though the college MIGHT not be asking for high grades, an employer will still want to see good qualifications.

Invitation for Year 11 Parents

Posted by a.smethurst, Oct 23 2007, 03:46 PM in College Applications

Times change; the chioces offered to students at 16 are different from the choices offered to their parents / carers.

If talk of BTECs and NVQs is like a foreign language to you, perhaps you would like to come along to our drop-in session for the parents of year 11 students on

WEDNESDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2007
between 3.30pm and 6.00pm

where you can speak to Connexions Advisors and the School's Career Coordinator to find out more about the 16+ choices facing students.

The session is aimed at parents and carers, although students can come along if you want.

Below is the letter that was sent out to all parents about this event. You can download it by clicking on the link below it:

Dear Parent / Carer

Your son/daughter is in the process of making some very important decisions about their future. The choices available to them are very different to the choices available at 16+ a few years ago and can seem confusing and overwhelming. We would like to help parents and carers unravel some of the mysteries of these options by inviting you to our:

Parents / Carers Careers drop-in session; to be held in school on Wednesday 7th November from 3.30 – 6.00pm., where you can speak to the School’s Careers Co-ordinator and Connexions advisors.

Students are welcome to along as well, but the idea behind the session is to answer any questions you may have about the different qualifications available, Career entry options, college courses on offer and financial implications of further study.

Please come along at a time to suit you.

Yours sincerely

A Smethurst
Careers Coordinator
