Dear Parent / Carer
We are sure that over the summer break you will have read the articles and letters in the local press regarding Bury Council's proposal to incorporate a primary school into our new building. We can assure you that this was as much of a shock to us as governors as it must have been to you. The governors are not against the principal of a high school and a primary school on one site but do not agree they should occupy one building.
The governing body responded as quickly as possible. The local authority held an extra council meeting in July and at this meeting the full council made a commitment that the school would definitely be constructed and ready for occupation in January 2009. The only question now to be resolved is the intake number for the school and we have been assured by the council that there will be a full consultation and everyone involved will have the opportunity to put forward their views and be involved in the debate before a final decision is made.
During the holiday and in the first week of term the governors and staff of the school have worked tirelessly to ensure the building schedule goes ahead without any further delay. We are very pleased that the council has made a firm commitment that this will happen. There has already been a lot of work on the site to clear the land ready for building to begin in early October. We are convinced that once the actual construction starts and people can see for themselves the exciting and dynamic design of the new school, parents will have the confidence to choose Radcliffe Riverside for the secondary education of their children.
As parent governors we are passionate about our children's future and we are sure that you will share these values. We need your support in promoting the school within the local community and would welcome your views and any offers of help for the new Radcliffe Riverside Parents' Forum.
We are determined to ensure that the secondary education of the children of Radcliffe continues to improve into the new 'state of the art' building.
