10 July 2008
Dear Parent/Carer
LAST WEEK OF TERM / STRIKE ACTION
You may be aware of the fact that the public services union Unison is taking strike action on Wednesday 16 July and
Thursday 17 July in pursuit of its pay claim. This means that some members of our support, administration, caretaking
and cleaning staff may not be in work on these days.
We have carried out a risk assessment and decided that it will not be possible to open the school on Wednesday 16 and
Thursday 17 July. However the trips already organised for Thursday 17 July will go ahead as planned. I am sorry for any
inconvenience that this may cause but I trust you will understand that these events are beyond the control of the school.
On Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 school will open at the later time of 9.30 am and close at the earlier time of 3.00 pm. On
Friday 18 we will open at 9.30 am and the students will be dismissed for the summer break at 12.45 pm.
Please note that on Monday and Tuesday we will be providing Olympic themed lunches free of charge (up to a maximum
value of £1.80 per student) in both school canteens.
Friday 18 July will be a non-uniform day when the students will have the opportunity to pay £1.00 in order to come into
school in non-uniform clothes. The money collected will be donated to the fund supporting one of our ex-students, Zoe
Robinson, who has been selected to be part of the Boccia team competing in the Beijing Paralympic Games.
On Tuesday 2 September when we re-open after the summer break our new Year 7 students will be arriving at 10.00 am
and will be dismissed at 3.00 pm. All other students in Years 8 to 11 are to arrive at 11.00 am and will be dismissed at
3.00 pm.
On the first day back the students will need to make sure they have their writing equipment and either money to buy lunch
or a packed lunch. They will not need their PE kit. From Wednesday 3 September school will start and finish at the usual
times of 8.55 am and 3.20 pm and students will follow their normal timetable.
If you have any queries about any of these arrangements please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very enjoyable summer break and I look forward to welcoming all
students back on 2 September.
Yours sincerely
Diana Morton
Executive Headteacher
